Optical Engineer

4D Technology Corporation is seeking a candidate for the position of Optical Engineer. You will report to the Director of Product Development and work with a team of experienced professionals in a dynamic, growing, high-tech environment. Your roles will include:

  • prototype optical systems
  • build and test pre-release instruments
  • document build and test procedures
  • transfer designs to production and assist with optical designs.

You will also work in the laboratory to breadboard designs, set up optical tests, evaluate components and align optical systems.

The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented self starter with excellent engineering and organizational skills.

We are looking for candidates with the following minimum requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or Physics
  • 5+ years designing and tolerancing optical components and systems (M.S. or Ph.D equivalent)
  • Experience working with laser instrumentation
  • Experience in handling precision optical components
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in team environment
  • Experience with optical design and optical design codes, Zemax experience desirable.

Applications Engineer

4D Technology Corporation is seeking a motivated engineer who enjoys interacting with people, learning new technology and solving technical problems to join a team of experienced professionals in a fast growing, dynamic, high-technology environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Master the operation of state-of-the-art optical instrumentation hardware and software
  • Master techniques of optical metrology for precision measurement
  • Assess suitability of instrumentation and techniques to meet customer metrology requirements
  • Measure customer samples, generate reports and summarize analysis results
  • Communicate with customers and coworkers in an effective and affable manner
  • Travel to domestic and international customer sites and technical exhibitions
  • Set up and install equipment; perform customer demonstrations and training
  • Evaluate customer requirements and work with Engineering and Sales to configure appropriate solutions
  • Participate in the identification and development of new/improved product and market opportunities.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S degree in Science or Engineering, experience in optics, optical metrology highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; professional written and oral communication skills
  • Track record of proactively solving problems and seeking new challenges
  • Accomplishment while working in a team environment
  • Skills to self-manage time effectively on daily and weekly basis
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Physical requirements: must occasionally lift and move up to 50lbs
  • US citizen or Green Card holder
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.

Electronics Technician

4D Technology is seeking an Electronics Technician at our head office in Tucson. Responsibilities include:

  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform routine testing, troubleshooting, prototype building, environmental testing and interface with production
  • Perform routine inspection testing and fault isolation on production electrical assemblies; diagnose and perform remedial action on production-related electrical issues
  • Diagnose and isolate malfunctions down to the component level
  • Conduct defined engineering tests and collect data as assigned
  • Utilize development or diagnostic equipment including oscilloscopes, DVM, signal generators and similar test apparatus.

We are seeking qualified candidates with:

  • AA or technical diploma and 3+ year of relevant work experience; additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems and networking
  • Familiarity with digital and analog circuit troubleshooting and repair.

Assembly Technician

4D Technology is seeking an Assembly Technician at our head office in Tucson. Responsibilities include:

  • Electrical assembly: building cables and wiring harnesses and assembling control and power boxes
  • Mechanical assembly: cleaning and checking components, and building sub-assemblies incorporating gears, slides, actuators, encoders, etc.
  • Optical assembly: inspection, cleaning, positioning and bonding of optical components
  • Documentation: follow detailed work instructions, engineering drawings and schematics; fill out data sheets completely and maintain quality system documentation
  • Quality control: perform incoming inspection of parts, components and optics; identify and document defective parts; perform in-process inspection and testing
  • Packaging: pack instruments for shipment and complete shipping documentation
  • Other duties: comply with safety and regulatory requirements; escalate issues and recommend solutions; provide training and achieve a high level of cross training; actively participate in continuous improvement projects such as kaizen, six sigma, lean manufacturing.

We are seeking qualified candidates with:

  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and optical components
  • Continuous handling of lightweight materials
  • Occasional lifting of heavy materials over 40 lbs
  • Occasional use of hazardous chemicals.

Additional desired qualifications:

  • Experience with precision power supplies and digital multimeters
  • Experience with wire termination and cable assembly, including soldering and crimping.
