Service Engineer

4D is seeking an engineer for the service of our precision optical metrology instruments. This position is multi-disciplined with an emphasis on optical engineering.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In-house and offsite troubleshooting and repair of 4D products
  • Installation and certification of 4D products
  • Technical customer support, including resolving software and hardware issues and applications support
  • Interface with all engineering disciplines at 4D to resolve customer problems
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Requires up to 50% travel, both in the US and internationally.

We are looking for candidates with the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in the application and integration of precision optical and opto-mechanical components
  • Knowledge of optical handling, cleaning and assembly procedures
  • Excellent analytical ability
  • Effective team leader and member with superior interpersonal skills
  • Customer focused with strong writing and communication skills
  • Self-directed, reliable and organized
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license.

The following experience is highly desired:

  • Metrology experience
  • Experience with electrical components, including wire termination, soldering and crimping
  • Experience configuring Windows-based computer systems.

 Opto-Mechanical Technician

4D is seeking a candidate responsible for assembly, alignment and test of precision optical systems, including optical, mechanical and electrical components.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, align, calibrate, test, document and package optical assemblies and instruments
  • In-house repair and service, occasional repair and service at customer site
  • Work with R & D team to assemble and test new products
  • Provide training for other production staff and achieve a high level of cross training
  • Maintain service records
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement projects.

We are looking for candidates with the following minimum requirements:

  • Associates Degree in optical science and 3 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of optical handling, cleaning and assembly procedures
  • Knowledge of optical devices including: lenses, mirrors, prisms, collimators, shear plates, beam splitters etc.
  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.

The following experience is highly desired:

  • Experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, precision power supplies and digital multimeters
  • Experience configuring Windows-based computer systems
  • Experience with wire termination and cable assembly, including soldering and crimping.

Sales Engineer Southeast Region

4D Technology Corporation is seeking a technical sales engineer for the Southeastern United States, to join a team of experienced professionals in a growing, dynamic, high-tech environment. The candidate ideally will have a proven ability in selling high-end optical instrumentation.

Responsibilities require the candidate to:

  • Develop and expand sales contacts, manage sales prospects, and close sales within a defined geographic region.
  • Evaluate customer requirements and configure appropriate solutions.
  • Generate quotations and proposals in response to RFQs and RFPs.
  • Conduct presentations, sales calls, and visits; set up and install equipment; perform customer demonstrations and training.
  • Attend technical exhibitions.
  • Coordinate the logistics, communication and associated paperwork for sales and service in the territory.
  • Function as a liaison between the customer, production, accounting, engineering and service.
  • Participate in the identification and development of new market opportunities.
  • Travel would be ~50% of the time domestic in the southeast region. Candidate may work remotely from a home office. Some air travel required.  

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with the following qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S degree in Science/ Engineering or Communications/Marketing. Additional business education desirable. (Technical product training will be supplied.)
  • Skill and proficiency using MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and sales management software such as ACT!.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience selling electro-optical systems, metrology, and/or optical instrumentation with a demonstrated ability to close competitive sales.
  • Strong self-directed organizational skills to organize time effectively on daily and weekly basis.
  • Experience in monthly sales forecast and prospect analysis reporting.
  • Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving, crafting a win-win solution.
  • Physical requirements: must be able to lift demonstration equipment, up to 50 lbs.
